Shrinking Dough

I tried a new gingerbread recipe and the dough feels quite "gluey". I think this is because of the hot water I put in it. When I roll it out, it shrinks a lot, to the point that it is impossible to make even gingerbread cookies out of the dough. I was wondering if there was any way to salvage this dough, or something else i can turn it into? It would be a shame to throw it all away.
