Okay, it's not Gingerbread but I just made this Icing Church for my Holiday centerpiece that will go with my Gingerbread Swan I'm working on. Anyway, I found this pattern in a woman's magazine about 25+ years ago and I haven't made it since the 1980's. Finished it today and forgot how fun and easy it is to make. It's made totally out of Royal Icing, piped flat on wax paper and then assembled with more Royal icing. I melted candy (Jolly Rogers) for the windows though you can also use fruit leather. I pipe to little rows of pews for inside.
I made this church in July of 1983 for my parents anniversary and put it on top of a sheetcake with tapers, small evergreen trees, and a bride and groom in front. It was very pretty. The day after their anniversay, I went into labor and gave them a better gift though :).

Sadly the url is no longer valid. Does anyone know of another place to find the pattern or the year it appeared in Woman's Day magazine?

Gingerbread Church Pattern Now Available by: Kelly
You can use this pattern to make an icing church by laying the cut out pattern pieces under waxed paper and then piping icing to fill in each pattern piece. Then, assemble the church with more icing as you would a church made out of gingerbread.

Excellent In Every Aspect by: Bertie Gros
Jena, I know the Woman's Day you are speaking of. My! That is a long time ago. I think that you did an excellent job on making this church. I never tried this one myself, but I was tempted to. I'm so happy that I saw something from my younger days. Family Circle and Woman's Day were two of the most popular magazines that were around. May God be with you each and every day.

I also made this!! by: Anonymous
It is not as hard as it looks. Just a steady hand and a place where you can work secluded. Beautiful!!

Sure, we'll allow URLs by: Kelly
As long as the URL is not self-promotional and offers value to our visitors, we'll allow it. It's all about helping each other build better gingerbread (or icing or chocolate...) houses and have more fun doing it!
