Gingerbread on buttercream?

by Margie

One of our readers sent me this question but her Reply address bounced, so I'll put it out here for everyone and hope she sees it:

I,will be make a 4 tier cake that will have gingerbread cookie houses ( only the front) Around each tier. I'm looking for a recipe that will hold up, something on hard side. They will be adhered to buttercream and I'm afraid they will soften and droop or fall off. Any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. I could send a pic if that would help

That's a tricky one! Maybe you could cover the back of the cookies with something that hardens and becomes non-porous (like royal icing or chocolate??)

Anyone else have an idea or ever tried this?
