decorating sides first

I'm about to make my first ginger bread house from a pre-baked kit. Can I decorate the sides first then stand them up. I think I would be a better decorator if the sides were flat as I piped. Is this the most naive idea?? Thank you for any suggestions.

Yes, it can be very helpful to decorate the sides and roof pieces before assembling a gingerbread house.
