I bought a pre-baked gingerbread house kit, but did not open. Can it be saved until next year?

Pre-baked gingerbread kits usually last at least a year, but there are no guarantees. I've generally found that the candies in the kits go bad (soft if they're supposed to be hard, hard if they're supposed to be soft, colors bleeding,...) before the gingerbread.

It's most likely fine to build a gingerbread kit that's older, but you might not necessarily want to eat it. You can always bake plain ol' easy gingerbread cookies to eat while you enjoy looking at your decorated house.
