Pepperkakehuset - The Gingerbread house

by Marianne
(Alta, Norway)

This is my gingerbread house, X-mas 2008. It took 5 days to finish; I used ca.5 kilos of icing sugar and 12 egg whites. I have only made one gingerbread house before (last year), but it was far less complex and looked more like a fairytale house (think Hans and Grethe).

All walls have little gingerbread bricks on them, there are 89 handmade roses (and some little green leafs), god knows how many roof tiles (black marzipan - took forever to make each one, cos the marzipan is so sticky) and the windows (the "glass") are gelatine sheets - very pretty indeed, the harlequin pattern looks great. The little garden contains 4 rosebushes and plenty of icing/frosting.
So, maybe an untraditional g.b.house, but hopefully pretty enough?

Wish I could show more pictures : )
