Library gingerbread house

At our library we have been challenged to make a cutaway library gingerbread house. We've seen this done with cake but are having a tough time figuring out how to do this with gingerbread. Any suggestions? By the way....cutaway meaning you can partially see inside and see books on shelves and such.

The picture I've attached is the library cake ~ how in the world can we make that as a gingerbread house? :)

hmm... i think something like pezz candy you could use as books. just an idea i haven't actually tried it yet though.
