My family and I started a few years ago with a kit from the store but it just wasn't big enough. Now in our 3rd year - we keep going bigger - except we are all about the decorations and creative ideas we come up with and we just go with it. We start with large pieces of styrofoam to build the base and then go UP from there. This year we ended up with a ski lift, ski jump, 2 lodges/skate rental, skating rink and huge Christmas tree. This one ended up about 4'x 2'x 2'. We use tons of candy and gingerbread for the houses, people etc.
