Gingerbread Train 2009

This is my gingerbread for the Cleveland Cavaliers this year. This picture doesn't show the logo, so I guess its okay to post a picture. I'm especially proud of how the locomotive turned out. Photos that have the logo can be seen on my photobucket account. Search ThorneHope's photo album. I hope you like it...

Inspiring!!! Great job!
by: Tammy G

Absolutely amazing!!! Great job. I'd like to know what type of little lights did you use and where did you buy them and how did you attach them to your train.
I know others have asked you for the template and you said you made it yourself.

Thank you for your awesome inspiration!

Thanks for the compliments!
by: Anonymous

Up until this point in 2009, the train was the most difficult gingerbread I had done. Then I decided to do a carousel last Christmas. There are pictures posted here under "ginger-go-round". I also have others on photobucket. I make my own patterns from cardboard and assemble them with masking tape to get an idea of what it will look like. I had some help with the train when I found the woodworking pattern. With last years I found a website that sells food grade molding clay. That's how I made the reindeer. It took about 6 weeks to finish. I'm taking this year off..I'm just gonna bake some cookies. The NBA strike had a big effect on how much I can afford to spend on my hobby. I'll think of something cool for next year.. Thanks again, ~Valerie

Beautiful gingerbread train!
by: Kelly

This is beautiful! And you've inspired me - I think the next template I make for this site will be a similar train. Wish I had time to do this before Christmas! Unfortunately, running a gingerbread website on top of a "day job" makes my October to December pretty crazy!!

Watch for it on our templates page in January though!!

Re: Train Pattern
by: Valerie

I make my own patterns out of cardboard. I didn't know a whole lot about trains before this and wasn't sure what types of cars I wanted to use. I reasearched photos on google and came across a woodworking pattern for a child's toy train. It was a free download. I scaled it down a bit and only used the locomotive and pullman patterns. The caboose and coal car I designed myself. I hoope this helps you out.

Looking for Template
by: Dee

I create a gingerbread scene for my daughters job every year that they use as a prize for a contest they hold during the holidays. I was thinking of creating a train for next years scene and your locomotive is absolutely lovely. Where can I get a template for a train like yours. Thank you so much, Dee
