My Husband and I have been hosting "Gingerbread House night" early in December for our Godchildren for about 15 years. Every year we build 5-8 gingerbread houses and the children ages 4-27 masterfully decorate their houses. Each year we are more and more impressed as they come prepared with how this year's house will look.
After about a week and a half of making the dough, rolling and baking each piece, all of the houses go home with the kids to enjoy in their homes. Although I have every intention of building one for our home it does not seem to fit into the busyness of the holiday season. This year was different. I built 3 houses, 2 as gifts and one for a contest!
I entered a gingerbread train station in the contest. The contest was the 3rd annual Gingerbread House Contest at the Wenham Museum in Wenham Massachusetts. It is a wonderful museum with an amazing model train layout that brings out the child in everyone. In December they gather the entries of the contest and lay them out and the Gingerbread Express, a G scales train rides in and out the village of gingerbread. The houses are so pretty and the room smells so beautiful. I visited one day and was thrilled to watch the children,(even the big ones) enjoy watching the trains and the houses.
My train station was the second place winner for the Peoples Choice,I was so honored, and so proud to be amoung so many creative "builders" I am looking forward to next years contest, I am hooked!
