The Biltmore House

The Biltmore House

I have long admired the Biltmore house and have done a lot of research on the Vanderbilt family. I wanted to create the fairytale feel of the house by placing it on a pop up book. Biltmore House was built in 1895 and the spectacles on the front depict the era. This is mostly made of gum paste and fondant. The majority of it is carved and took 4 months to make. You can view my video on youtube for more details. It was great fun and I plan to enter again. Thanks for checking it out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1Sv6mSaXVs

Hi Vickie,
Thanks so much. The book is actually two rectangle sheet cakes stacked on each other. Covered in buttercream icing. I let that harden.Made a batch of rice crispy treats and put a layer of that on top of the cakes and made it to shape like an open book. I put icing over that to make it smooth and harden then covered in fondant and had to shape it to look like a book. Good luck! You should post your results so we can see! Shelley

Your work is amazing! Can you tell me how you made the open book? I'm hoping to make a pop up Chronicles of Narnia in gingerbread with my kids this year.
