Remembering the shopping in quaint little stores. Going in and out of each one while enjoying the falling snow. Seeing the beautifully lit towns' square tree and remembering and almost tasting the sweet smells from the bakery. Those memories were the inspiration behind my entry for the 11th annual Gingerbread House Contest at the Festival Of Lights in James Island SC.
Probably the hardest thing was delivering the completed house as I live 25 minutes from where this competition was held. That doesn't sound like a lot of time but, coupled with the VERY heavy traffic, it was nail biting at times.
This contest is held in conjunction with the Festival Of Lights which boast over two million light displays as well as a sand sculpture using about 20 tons more or less of sand.
This is a must see event starting every November through January, just after New Years. If ever in Charleston in the winter, add this event to your list. Rest assured you won't be disappointed!
